Romina Nölp is socialworker and media educator and works in the medium specialized consultation for the district Oberpfalz in southern Bavaria. Her focus is on digital games, media learning and media ethics. Romina Nölp is responsible for the Digital Games department for which she develops and conducts workshops and lectures for youth work within the Oberpfalz region.

Be my hero – facing traditional stereotypes in video games
15:15 - 16:45Children are often confronted with stereotypical hero figures when consuming media. In the "Media Heroes" workshop, children learn how their favourite characters are portrayed in the media and which characteristics make up a real hero beyond stereotypes. Together they create their own avatars (heroes) with computer game engines and create stories in which they can be heroes themselves and discuss about different features and benefits. The children then create their own adventure stories with the free Twine tool based on CSS programming language. This enables them to develop their own stories beyond existing stereotypes and to get first impressions of the world of programming and coding.20.
