Friederike Siller is a professor in the Department of Media Research and Media Education at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Germany. In addition, she is a member of the executive board of Seitenstark.de, a German NGO that specialises in positive online content for children. Her primary scholarly focus is on youth, families and digital media in education. Her research is at the intersection of media and social sciences.
Prior to joining the faculty in Cologne, she held the position of an assistant professor for media education at Mainz University. She was director of the children’s search engine fragFINN at the German federal initiative A Net for Children. She has also worked as project manager at the German Association for Voluntary Self-Regulation of Digital Media Service Providers, FSM.
She was a co-developer of the Media Literacy Lab, designed to bridge the gap between science and community practice which offers open online courses for educators and practitioners to foster their digital literacy. Friederike has collaborated with families, teachers and educators to enhance media literacy in diverse and low-resource communities. She serves on a variety of advisory boards on youth protection and internet safety, digital literacy initiatives and educational innovations for children, adolescents and young adults.
