Presence and Sound in Computer Games
The presentation summarizes recent work I have done regarding issues of presence, environment, world, and sound, particularly as they relate to virtual worlds, and will take this forward into the specific arena of computer games. Questions raised, to which answers will be proffered, include precisely what is presence and why is it important to some computer games?, what is the role of sound in the creation of the sense of presence? and can we truly create in virtual worlds that sense of presence we experience in real worlds?
