• Policies for Players: From the Perspective of China

Since more detailed stipulations were added to Chinese game policies, scholars have been examining the relationship among the government, game companies, and distributors. However, little attention has been paid to the cultural meaning and impact on players of such policies. In China, game policies are not just targeted at game content as such; they are the result of ideologically framed decisions that have an impact on the game experience itself. Consequently, it is imperative to explore the relationship between players and game policies. In this presentation, I will first summarize existing research relevant to China’s game policies, then summarize policy making protocols and review the present and future status of players in relation to policy.
