Modding the City: Utopia Now!
Alles Allen! „Everything to everyone!“ Where is utopia? Even if there is no such place in the sense of the “ou-topos,” the “non-place,” these “non-places” of thinking can be reality, they work! They can be found in every game, in any playful collaboration. But is there any space for u-topia in politics?
In this session we will reflect on the possibilities of playful activity in the field of political engagement. After a short theoretical discourse, we try to show that playful action, playful-artistic activity, stands in no contradiction to any form of „earnest“ engagement towards a better world. Any playful action may change the game. When the self-appointed elite of the world entered Hamburg in July 2017 (G20 summit), the „Alles Allen“ movement got in action. Not only to take part in the multidimensional forms of protest, but also taking an active part in the development of interconnected, collaborative, diverse, joyful, funny activities. Alongside the „Hard Cornern“ and the „Demo-Rave“ the no game „G20 The Gathering“ set out to get people taking action, to communicate and form cells of resistance. We will give you insight into the movement, the development process of „G20 The Gathering“ and critically reflect upon the process and the effects it had.
