Conception of a Video Game to Enhance Medical Training
Currently, ethical competences of medical students and professionals are usually trained through deliberating upon dilemmatic cases, whereas the effectivity of this kind of training has been criticized. To promote the quality of medical ethics training, we are currently designing a video game to support the ethics education of health professionals. Our presentation will begin with an analysis of the ethical competences that we want to train through the game. On this basis, we will present the game mechanisms, which we have selected and combined to achieve our desired learning outcomes. We will close with a discussion of our pedagogical concept for the use of the video game within the ethics training of health professionals, for example, with reference to the briefing and debriefing of players.
