Benjamin Beil
Dr. Benjamin Beil is Assistant Professor for Media Studies & Digital Culture at the University of Cologne. He received a degree on media studies at Siegen University (2002–2006) and obtained a PhD in 2010. His research interests revolve around the intermedial correlations between ›traditional‹ media (esp. film and television) and ›new‹ media (esp. video games and Web 2.0 technologies). His dissertation – First Person Perspectives. Point Of View in Film and Video Games (2010) – deals with the transforming visual aesthetics of the subjective camera as well as the first-person shooter. His second book – Avatar-Images (2012) – uses concepts of art history (i.e. the ›aesthetic border‹) to analyze forms of interactive imagery. His further research interests include transmedia television and participatory media cultures.
